External (Internal) insulation!

Hi everybody,

Hoping someone can help with a query that I can't seem to find a good answer to online (perhaps the way I'm phrasing the search!)

I have an external shed/outhouse building which is attached to the front entrance of my property. My house has cavity wall insulation in all areas apart from the wall adjoining this outhouse. In the winter the adjoining wall becomes extremely cold and as a result I get some condensation on it and a little mould (I keep on top of it so it doesn't grow/ spread)

I'd really like to stop this from happening a) as it results in quite a bit of lost heat and b) to prevent the condensation.

My question is, is there a DIY solution I could implement to insulate the wall (on the outhouse side) that would work? I was looking at external insulation and think that may be an option but is this something I can do myself? As the insulation would be inside the outhouse I'm not worried about it's appearance so anything that will help prevent the heat loss would be suitable!

Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about "cladding" type insulation?

Wall insulation is certainly within the capabilities of many on a DIY basis. I have done a couple of walls (internal) here and only called in a plasterer to put the final skim on top.
    It isn't rocket science.

Sorry, yes. I was thinking to buy some insulation "boards" that are usually used on external walls and then rendered over for the adjoining wall

Thank you, sounds like that may be the way to go

How old is the house? The only potential issue I can think of is whether adding rigid insulation to this exterior wall might cause any rising damp in that wall to come through more to the house's inside wall? At the moment, any damp will likely be evaporating away inside the outhouse.
Assuming this isn't a problem, then I don't see why any rigid insulation won't do this job. A sheet of Celotex, for example, could simply be foam-adhered to the external wall. Use the same foam between butts. Jobbie should be jobbed?

Any insulation glued to a wall should have mechanical fixings as well. You can get hammer fixings specifically designed for wall insulation.
