Should I pay up or trust the retailer's word that my fine has been cancelled

Hi, I received a fine as the keeper of a vehicle that did not put their correct registration into the machine but did pay the full amount due for parking and handed the ticket into the pub where it was then knocked off the lunch bill. As the keeper the fine was addressed to me and I appealed but this was rejected by Civil Enforcement who have reduced the fine to £20 if I pay in 14 days. At this point I turned to this lovely forum for advice and saw that the first thing that I should have done was to contact the establishment which I have now done and they tell me (via facebook messenger) that it is cancelled and I should get a letter in 3 -4 weeks. My issue is that if I am being fobbed off by them and it isn't cancelled then I have missed the deadline for paying the reduced amount and also for POPLA appeal. What would you do?

I've been in an identical situation and did take the landowner's word for it.  Nothing further was heard.  Don't forget that these private parking companies aren't exactly focussed on customer service; the likelihood is that they simply cancel the ticket and then bin the file.  It's a waste of time sending you paperwork.  Just out of interest, is there a reference number anywhere on the ticket?  You may be able to check it on the parking enforcer's website, or you could telephone them.

Easiest way is to go online as if to pay the PCN - if it has been cancelled then either the PCN ref. will not be recognised, or the amount owed will be £0.00 :)
