Just as a word of warning, take extra care when checking and submitting a Lasting Power Of Attorney to the Office Of The Public Guardian.

I've just had two rejected and returned simply because one signature in one box was in the wrong place. My only options now are to apply for a review to a Judge and the cost that involves or too resubmit a complete new LPOA with the one signature in the correct box. The OPG have 'kindly' offered me a 50% reduction if I resubmit the new application in the next couple of weeks but that will still cost me another £82.

It’s not “simply because one signature in one box was in the wrong place.”  It is very important that these forms are filled in correctly.  

The instructions on the forms are very clear and there are reminders all down the left hand side of the forms as to what to do and where to sign etc.  I can’t see that the OPG could make this any clearer.

Sorry if this is not what you want to hear but having completed these myself I thought they were very straightforward.

My gormless brother put the wrong year on his bit in section 11 (attorney), OPG just returned it & told us to replace the page & send it all back. There was no charge.

TBH 'we' were entirely to blame for careless checking, so I agree, check & check again.

One of Mr DQ's attorneys changed the date by one day - struck through without initialling. This also prompted a new Section 11 (no charge).

Another word of warning. My parents used a solicitor to submit their POA. I thought the solicitor’s handwriting on the form was bad but didn’t say anything as it was the solicitor. Anyway OPG returned the forms asking for clearer writing, so the 2nd time they were submitted, they were typed.
The solicitor didn’t charge a 2nd OPG fee but they did ask we reimburse them for their extra time & effort for the 2nd submission. My parents demurred. The solicitors accepted their decision.
