EDF is billing me for a "final bill" 10 months after switching!

I switched from EDF to Pure Planet in January. I have only now received a "final bill" for gas and electricity even though at the time they refunded me my credit and said my balance was zero. To add to the confusion, they now claim that the original starting meter reading was "estimated" (how can that be?) and to add even more confusion, the meter number they quote has always been zero and has never been used. They now say I owe them £502.55.
Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to get to speak to anyone at PurePlanet and my email was acknowledged saying that it will be several weeks before they can reply. I tried calling EDF but I have up after 30 minutes on hold.
Any suggestion from anyone?
Thanks in advance
Nik

Look at your starting reads issued by Pure Planet from your first bill with them and check what closing reads EDF have used in their 'final bill'. They should be the same. If not then take it from there.0

NikI don’t quite understand your reference to a meter with a zero meter reading. Do you have more than one meter? If the meter is on the National Database then it will be subject to a standing charge.0 -
When you say the start reads are estimated, do you mean the start reads with EDF or Pure Planet? If it’s the initial reads from EDF, how long were you with them & who was you supplier prior to them.If it’s your reads with Pure Planet, what reading did you give them for the switch in January and is this the reading on your final EDF bill?Did you give EDF regular reads when you were with them? How many meters do you have & do you get billed on both or is it a case of 2 meters on 1 MPAN?0

You might want to be aware of the back billing rules. They mean you can't be billed for energy you used over a year ago. So EDF should only be able to bill you for energy used from last October to the date of switch.
