British Gas smart monitor alert

My monitor gives  alert ‘gas supply disconnected’ I tried everything but the alert is there. I phoned  British gas and spoken with Melissa. The constant answer was’ it is more then 12 months old so we can’t exchange it. I asked what to do with the alert and she suggested to disconnect the monitor completely. I told her that it is a government advice to monitor your usage. I could open a complaint BUT as it is policy she had to close it again! Please can anyone suggest what we can do?

  • Has your gas meter actually been disconnected? It is unlikely that there is a fault with your in house display so I am not sure why you want it replaced? The probably is more likely to be GSME (gas meter) firmware related. Responsibility for fixing firmware problems sits with the GSME manufacturer.

As far as IHDs are concerned, the normal 12 months’ rule applies. Suppliers will provide a replacement but many will raise a charge for a replacement.

That's the third person I've seen reporting this today with their British Gas IHD. I wonder what's going on?
  • If the IHD is otherwise working then it's much more likely that the issue is further upstream, i.e. with the link between the two meters and/or something the supplier themselves are mucking about with.
If the heating works then don't worry, it will probably go away when they fix whatever they broke.

You dont need an IHD to read the meter - you can read the meter directly from it's display.
