Debenhams Card

in Credit cards
My wife has (had) a Debenhams store card which (while the stores were open) she used occasionally for low amounts.. Today she got a new card in the post, on closer examination and reading the literature we saw it was a fully fledged Mastercard credit card, which can be used anywhere with a credit limit of 8,000 (my wife has no income should point out
)

Just think it's a bit of a nerve to send credit cards out unsolicited, other people who may not read it closely may not even realise what they have take on. Ours has gone in the shredder and as we won't activate it it will expire in 60 days.

Well, the Debenhams brand is supposed to be continuing trading online although it's now owned by BooHoo. But even though your wife may have been sent a new credit card, it doesn't mean that she has to use it. (She must have a good financial record too if she's been given a credit limit of £8,000 - even if she doesn't have any income of her own.) The Debenhams store card changed into a Mastercard credit card some time ago and could be used anywhere that accepted Mastercard - Debenhams included. I had one myself but preferred when it was just a Debenhams store card.
You say "other people who may not read it closely may not even realise what they have take on" - but there's no reason to believe that other people aren't as bright as you and also, they will be able to see that it's a Mastercard credit card. Just like the previous Debenhams Mastercard.
Things like this are always happening - businesses have to make their money somehow - and you certainly don't have to use a credit card if you don't want to. You chose to destroy the one you were sent. Maybe your wife could write and ask them to close whatever account they still have open for her, so they don't send any more cards.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Are you sure it was a Debenhams store card? Debenhams also had a credit card - go back and have a closer look at the old card if you can. It was run by Newday - and they are currently swapping all Debenhams cardholders over to their newer own brand card - keeping the same credit limits and interest rates. I don't think you'd get a credit card to replace a store card. Newday also run the Topman/Topshop cards (of which I have one) - and I've been sent letters and emails to explain that in October/November my card will automatically change to their new one. Could your wife have missed the emails? Or the letters gone into the shredder thinking they were just marketing materials?0

Not sure if they live in Gilead but It goes without saying that the wife is party to the credit agreement and hubby shouldn't be putting 'Ours' in the shredder. It wasn't unsolicited (the OPs wife clearly signed a credit agreement) and didn't cancel.

My Debenhams Gold Credit Card - with Payment Protection Insurance is ceasing on 31st October 2021. Does anyone know of any other credit cards that offer the same service? New Day and AXA are not able to assist with my enquiry.
