Can't Open Monzo Joint Account

I've been with Monzo since October 2018 and my Mrs has just joined (we've just got married).

I've repeatedly tried to set up a Joint Account with Monzo but I keep getting the same message
"Unfortunately we can't offer you an account right now, and we can't tell you any more about why."

Any idea what this is about, or if there is anything  I can do to help the process?

TIA

The only people who can answer your question accurately are Monzo, and it looks like they don't want to.
Ive looked into this before and they seem to be more 'linked' accounts than joint accounts.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

It might be that your wife hasn't had her Monzo account for long enough - I presume from your post that she's only just opened it... They may have some sort of internal thing that wants both accounts open, and in use for X period... Before a joint account can be provided.

Monzo are the only people who can confirm this.

Presumably both credit files are also in good shape? No defaults, CCJs etc.

If this is your first financial link, then I'd be showing each other your credit files before linking, to avoid nasty surprises.

    Have you followed this

Make sure you have your account co-owner's details saved in your contacts, and that you have Payments with Friends switched on in your app settings – otherwise you won't be able to get started!
  • Ive been getting the same error for opening a joint account. Payments with friends is switched on.

If it's anything like my experience with Bank of Scotland - they let me set up the account online but to add the second name I need to go into my local Halifax with the joint signatory and produce ID paperwork and a couple of recent bills. I set up the account during lockdown and still not made an appointment with the Halifax yet!! 😢
Expect the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes!!:o
  • Does anyone have anything on this other than the generic responses from Monzo. It’s super frustrating. The amount of people who have been asking on Twitter for 2/3 years and still they won’t provide anything.

screenshot is an example. Not my tweet

My wife and I each opened Monzo accounts and then opened a joint one in the space of about 20 minutes..We did have a joint mortgage and had had other joint accounts for the previous 20 years so that might have had something to do with it.

The old fashioned banks have archaic processes like that, but with the modern banks you can usually do it all from the app.
