Car insurance increase

I think you've misread the original post, Hasting want another £640 on top of the original £590, not instead of. Otherwise I'd agree OP should just pay the difference.Ditzy_Mitzy said:To look at this another way: the £30 admin fee is reasonable in the circumstances and needs to be paid to correct a mistake that wasn't made by the insurer. Forget about it. The premium increase proper is £20.59, give or take; not too much in the scheme of things when it comes to insurance. It's possible that the company bases premiums, in part, on the length of time the policyholder has owned the car without making a claim. Decreasing that time by a few months possibly jacks the premium up by a few quid. I can only really suggest paying it.Pensions actuary, Runner, Dog parent, Homeowner0 -
Wow, I had been thinking the word 'extra' was a typo and assumed a small increase of £20 or so. If it has more than doubled then I would definitely be shopping around again and cancelling the policy.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

Insurers dont like it when they have found out you have lied on your quote form... makes them wonder what else you have lied about.
If you cancel you will still have to pay the additional premium for the time on cover plus the cancellation charges but this may well be cheaper than continuing for the rest of the year at the higher price.0 -
If his second year of insurance started Sept 21 then his first year was Sept 20 to Sept 21.
What happened about insurance for the period June 202 to September 2020?0 -
I don't think this is a case of lying, just a case of providing what information they had and taking a guess at other information.Sandtree said:Insurers dont like it when they have found out you have lied on your quote form... makes them wonder what else you have lied about.

A well known insurance site does not let you run quotes through if they detect you already have insurance with them. So what I used to do was add a random extra letter to the end of my surname so that I could do a quote. When the renewal came through for much more I usually just referred them to the quote and they price matched.
However one year I got a bit of a jobsworth. She was adamant that she would not honour my quote because it was different. So I asked her to justify why someone with an 8 character surname should pay almost £200 more than someone with a 9 character surname (that literally was the only difference). In the end I asked to be transferred to her boss (whose name and number I had). The boss apologised and immediately agreed to price match their own quote.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
