Moved from Igloo to Ovo in early Sept but my credit balance didn't transfer, what can I do?

Options
I tried to get ahead of the price rises by switching from Igloo to an Ovo fixed deal in early September. It went through okay and I am now with Ovo, but Igloo folded before the switch completed, so my balance (£400ish) didn't get transferred over to my new account with Ovo. Does anyone know what I can do about trying to get hold of it?? Thanks in advance.

Igloo's SoLR - E.ON Next - will refund you. It could take several months.

When you arrange to switch supplier your balance does not go with you.  Igloo would issue a final bill and then you'd arrange for a refund of your credit.

Now that Igloo have gone bust credit balances will be protected and as above dealt with by EON Next.  It will likely take a long time for them to get round to dormant accounts as they'll be dealing with the active igloo accounts first.  Wouldn't hurt to get in touch with them at some point though.  If Igloo had issued you a final bill make sure you keep it.  Also get onto your account and download as much as you can.
  • thanks both, that's reassuring. I did get meter readings and screenshots of account balances etc so hopefully will be okay.
  • Couldn't you just claim under the direct debit guarantee, and then let them worry about chasing you for the balance?

This is what I might do with PFP. I switched in August, the electricity made it across from Igloo but the gas supply hit a snag. PFP collected direct debits to the tune of >£700, but have never produced an actual bill.

How exactly does a Bank get money back from a liquidated company?

Is that relevant to the direct debit guarantee?

If the OP's switch wasn't completed as promised, then a direct debit has been erroneously claimed. My layperson's understanding is that it's therefore eligible for a claim under the DDR guarantee.
