Had a Worcester boiler fitted in the summer and now have the heating on.  I have switched off the ECO setting on the boiler and am resetting the wireless Center thermostat.  I am used to a simple on/off timer but this one does not seem to have that option, it just changes the temperature at times you can set.
So, should I go for a very low temperature during the day and at night which will take more energy/longer time to heat morning and evening or should I opt to keep the house warm all the time and set it to about 16 during the day and night?
We are retired and often home during the day but will manually switch the heating up when we need it during the day.

  • I have the same time I think. Comfort II RF?

I am in most of the time and keep it comfortable during the day. If the same timer then 6 timed settings a day and use the temperature at each timed setting? Weekends and weekdays can be grouped or individual days.

    I set 05:00-07:30 for say 20.
Then drop the setting 18deg until 11:30.
Then pop the temp up to around 19 for an hour or three then drop it back to 18 till 18:00
then 18:00 to 20:00 back to 20. Then drop it it to 16 till the next morning.
I find this is the best for my use.

I try to run it cooler than I want and wind the knob up a tad or wind it back depending on how I feel with the temp. If I go out I dial the temp down to 16 or so until I come home. My house is well insulted and 16 needs a many days of 8 degrees or lower, it just means that the boiler will not call for heat when I am out.

Thanks, the timer has only 4 settings but your answer is very helpful.
Have you tried different settings and compared energy usage I wonder?
This is the thermostat, Center CB wireless.

Ah, I assumed it was the Worcester one seeing as you had a new Worcester boiler. Similar thing though?
But we use the time slots for the temperature but set it slightly lower than we may well need and drive the required from our front dial. Then set it to too low to kick in the boiler when we are in bed.

Usage wise we changed the way we run the boiler, from short bursts very hot to low a slow all day and heating temp where the condenser was most efficient (around 55 I think?) and not much different volume use (it will not be the same for you I bet). When the outside temp drops below 5 then we start to need to up the boiler temp a tad.

But that suits us, it could be very different for you. Our bills will be lower if we put on a pullover, or kill the heating for longer. But when in the house and our pockets allow, we will run it this way.

I find that the house is more comfortable with a CH return at 55 than 70 but it takes longer and we are well insulated.

Beast from the East was a different matter, we had it running around 16 when we went to bed, it was just too cold then.

Edit. Try logging use from the meter and see what happens for a short while. Our house needs and extra oomph below 8 degrees or so, that increases our consumption.
