Has anybody else noticed that TUI appear to be reducing the number of their Gold classification hotels ?
Rebranding at least one that I know of as Platinum in recent seasons.

  • Why? To charge more seeing as they think people will say Platinum is better than Gold.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Seems to have been happening for a number of years as Platinum, Sensatori, Suneo, Blue etc have grown.   Not sure Gold has been officially retired but I don't think they actively push it anymore.  Plenty of hotels have left Gold but not sure any have been added.

    That's a likely scenario.
I wonder what criteria makes TUI think Platinum is superior ?
The Hotel Falesia in Albufeira got very good reviews as a Gold hotel, and was one that we fancied - then TUI redesignated it Platinum.
Now also on offer from EasyJet - and I believe it can be booked DIY direct.
