One might also question why doubles are essential.  Obviously easier if the rooms are for couples but if not then why not go for singles.  There's even something called a slim single which takes up even less space - but having slept in one I don't recommend them as one needs to pivot rather than roll over which isn't always successful when solidly asleep.

If you do go for doubles I would suggest you get something that is foldable/bendable to make it easier to actually get into the room as well.  Anything with an internal frame may be impossible to maneuver.

And there's nothing saying you must have a headboard!
    thanks dear
  • We're moving house and plan on having our kingsize bed in the box room so our boys can have the two equal sized big rooms, they're primary aged, have toys out all the time to play with and playdates, will appreciate the floorspace more than us, we only ever sleep in our room.

The box room is 8'10x6'9 or 2.69x2.06m. There's a stair box in there too, floor to ceiling and space for the door to open. We plan a storage bed, cupboards above the bed, shelves instead of bedsides with wall mounted lights.

I'm adding a link to a Pinterest board I've started for small bedroom ideas we'll be using. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/Amy33pins/n-e-s-t-b-e-d-r-o-o-m/

If the head of the bed is on the long wall there will only be between 9" and 1' between the bottom of the bed and the opposite wall, which is a bit snug in my opinion.  If the bed can be placed with the head against the 7' wall there will be a more practical space on each side.
  • I don't know how to post links to this site , but have you thought of a study bed ?
It's a bed that folds into a computer desk . Shelving can be added at cost .
They do appear on fleabay now and again.  They come in anything from single to king size

I nearly got one , but in the end managed to use the furmiture I already had after ages of uncertainty .

Divan beds are smaller than bed frames; the former are the size of the mattress, the latter need to account for the frame size.

I've got galley style bedrooms. The largest has a big wood framed bed and I've got IKEA cube storage units, stacked, for most of my clothes; they're in nice wicker baskets. I've also managed to get a chest of drawers and bedside cabinet tucked in the room.

What I've ultimately decided to do is turn my second smaller bedroom into a dressing room with a folding bed of some form.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
