in Credit cards
have been with halifax over 30 years because of recent charge changes i decided to change bank accounts....applied and was succesful in getting Santander account.
However this is the account that pays my credit card with Halifax.
I am now concerned that they may ask me to clear my card debt with them which i could do but prefer not to right now.
I also applied and was accepted for tesco balance transfer credit card which is being processed.
should i contact Halifax and explain or will that make it even more likely they will ask me to pay the card.
I have two other accounts with Halfax both in credit.
What should i do? any suggestions much appreciated as i have never done transfers before.....thank you

They won't ask you to clear the card. Changing accounts has no bearing on your credit card.5

As ZX81 says, closing your (presumably?) current account will have no impact on the credit card, in itself - credit card accounts and current accounts are completely separate entities. You do, obviously, need to make sure that any DDs that were set up in your Halifax current account to pay the credit card are ported to the Santander account - should have happened automatically as part of the switching process, but no harm in double-checking.It may not be relevant, but what are you planning to do with the Tesco BT card - were you going to clear the Halifax card with that anyway, or something else?1

I'm pretty sure they mean don't make any changes to the current account. It's possible that if, for instance, you set up a new DD on the old Halifax account (to pay for a new mobile phone you've just bought, for instance), and the switch is due to happen tomorrow, then that DD might get missed in the switchover process. As far as the credit card goes, you'll be fine to just go ahead and transfer the balance as soon as your new Tesco card is set up.Amy19841987 said:santander paperwork said make no more changes ot original Halifax account til switching is complete....so now i am wondering by setting up the Tesco card if that will cause problems.....its the timing thatts concerning.....shoul;d be olk?
