avro refund

Options
I started a switch from Avro to Sainsbury's energy (Eon) just before they went bust. The switch has gone through successfully.
The problem is that Avro owed me about £80 as I was in credit. I was told not to cancel my DD with Avro so they could issue me the refund. But then in early October they debited my account again for £85 (which was the DD payment) in early October, a few days before the switch to Sainsbury's went through. But it's not showing up on my Avro account dashboard.
Does anyone know what I need to do so I can get my credit back? I can't contact avro as they no longer seem to have anyone answering their phones...
Thanks

Sit tight.  Octopus will be taking on the account, even though it's no longer active.  In due course, they will refund any credit balance brought across from Avro.

Check your Avro account again in a week or so as it may just take a while for the credit to appear

If it still has not been applied then contact your bank & get them to refund the payment

Also consider cancelling the direct debit with your bank even if this may have implications - for example Avro may still try to take further direct debits & then apply a penalty charge to your account balance when the DD fails - you will have to complain to the SoLR to get these refunded

I am now with Sainsbury's not Octopus as I had started a switch before I realised Avro was going bust... which is what makes it even more confusing!

You will just have to wait Octopus will sort it out eventually. I'm in the same boat with £200 credit.

When Eversmart went bust, I waited about 18 months for the refund from Utilita so don't expect anything soon. Although hopefully Octopus are more geared up to do it more efficiently.

that's why I said, "even though it's no longer active".  Your Avro account is migrating to Octopus, and the credit will go with it.  Octopus aren't supplying your energy but there's still an account there with a balance.  At some point, Octopus will refund you and close the account.

This has happened to me. I started a switch from Avro to Shell on 31st August. Today (15th November) an amount was taken again by AVRO/octopus.  I spoke to Shell who say I need to speak to Octopus as the transfer was successful but Octopus may still be taking my monthly payment.  I have now paid two energy companies for two months and cannot see how to get my credit back.

You're with Shell? If so, you'll get your money back from Octopus automatically once they get the Avro account details and deal with closed accounts.
If you need it sooner than that, contact your bank and ask them to reverse the Octopus payments under the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee. Then cancel the Avro / Octopus DD.

  • We are in the same position. We had a credit with Avro of over £100 but that balance has not migrated to Octopus.
We are also being billed by both companies each month. I just contacted my bank and they say they cannot do a charge back as Avro are no longer trading. I am waiting to hear back from Octopus, but this is concerning as we are moving soon and this will complicate issue further.
Unbelievable that a company no longer trading can keep billing you and your bank cannot help, but that seems to be the case.
Direct debit cancelled now, but it remains to be seen if we get our money back.

You will get your money back. You just need to be patient and not expect it for perhaps 18 months.

Why 18 months? Have Octopus stated this anywhere please?
