Moving flat - what to do about energy supplier

Options
I'm about to move flat (from rented to owned) at the end of the month.  I'm aware the current advice is to stick with your current energy supplier due to the ongoing situation, but I'm not sure which way around to interpret that advice when it comes to moving house: am I supposed to stick with the supplier who supplies me (in my 'old' flat) right now; or the one who is the existing supplier for the 'new' flat but with whom I have no contract?

My current flat has been supplied by EOn since 2009 and I'm more or less a satisfied customer, though it's an electricity-only contract.  My tariff was due to run until May, but doesn't include gas.

My new flat is both electricity and gas, and was supplied by one of the suppliers that recently went out of business (Green) and has just been switched to Shell Energy, I believe.

You cannot take your contract & supplier with you, you will become, like it or not, a customer of whoever supplies your new house at the moment, bust or not, and luckily for you this time round on the fall back SVR capped tariff

Just make sure you take photos of your leaving meters & the new meters readings on moving day, don't trust this task to Agents or anyone else or it may well end in frustration when the bills roll in

Once settled in try & find just who is your supplier, but for once there is no rush because you will be on their cheapest tariff by accident this time round

Make sure to read & report meter readings regularly, maybe monthly to get a good idea of your "normal" consumption  and think ahead to where you will go once the capped tariff ends next year. You will then be in same boat as thousands of others on these boards

You can certainly ask E.ON if they will let you switch back to them on your current tariff after you have moved, but they have no obligation to agree to that.
The correct process though is that you will give E.ON you meter reading on the day you leave, and then at your new property you will take meter readings on the day you move in and provide them to the current supplier at the new address and set up an account with them before switching back to E.ON if they have agreed to let you go back onto your current tariff.
Otherwise just stay with the new supplier on their deemed tariff, do not agree to move to any other tariff at this time as you will be better off on their capped SVT for now...
Also, since this is a flat, make sure you have access to your meter to take your own readings, do not trust anyone else to do that for you...
