Pros - You can ease your budget by winning gifts for yourself and others. And everytime you win, it is a lovely feeling. It's also a free way of passing the time, which can be important if you don't have any/much money.

Cons - An awful lot of spam. In many formats. There are more and more social media comps, and scammers seem to create a new fake account every time they see a competition and then try to follow you/add you/message you and trick you into thinking you have won when you haven't. Be wary, and double check everything.
