Halifax Credit Card Additional Card Holder..

Are credit checks taken out on additional cardholders? Or do they go through the actual card holder/ account for that? My partner has a credit card and is about to apply for me to get a card but I wondered will this show up as a credit check on my file, or do they not check if the credit card account is already open?

Additional cardholders are soft checked for identity purposes but should not receive a hard check since liability rests with the main account holder.
