Smart motorway camera query

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help? On smart motorways does every gantry have a camera for the variable speed changes and if anyone can help to see if the ones in the attached pictures are cameras?
I was travelling home this week and the variable speed matrix changed ahead and I managed to drop from 65mph to about 55mph ish before going through the gantry. I will have been above the 50moh limit and aware I may get a letter in the coming days but it's more to see what the cameras are and if these cameras are on every gantry with a matrix sign.
There was no flash but aware not all flash and on the next gantry I saw a yellow speed camera but it was more for my own piece of mind if this happens again.
Unsure if the devices next to the sensors are cameras?
Cheers

    They are lights.
  • Thanks. I presume the yellow speed camera attached further ahead is the camera that monitors speeds and not every gantry has a camera then?

If your speedo said 55 and the posted limit was 50 you should be ok, as your speedo probably overreads and any cameras probably have some leeway.
  • I maybe OK then as the next gantry was the one I visably saw a camera(photo attached)
I assume that Not every gantry and matrix sign has a camera to record the change in speeds?

Hopefully, il wait the 14+ days. Its mainly for further notice. Yes staying in the speed is important but its more that going along a clearish road at speed limit and then slowing down enough to remain safe with the cars and lorrys cruising behind me!
I presumed every matrix has a camera and clearly explains why other vehicles carry on at speed!

You won't get a ticket for an indicated 55 in a 50 limit stretch.
  • General guidance is 10%+2 based on the police force operating the area, at the same time your dash will overstate speed by 7-10% anyway as they are built this way. So if you did 55 on dash you are most likely doing 49-52
  • Just to clarify, for most police areas, 10% +2mph is the starting point for enforcement.

If my speedo says 55 on the motorway then the GPS on the Waze app will almost certainly say I am doing 50 (51 at the most) - I dont know which one is most accurate though and I am sure thats why there is a small % leeway for inaccurate speedos.
