Ebay Refund

I am a long term member of Ebay and have made many sales (800 positive feedbacks) for random things I find in charity shops so I am familiar with almost every bit of how Ebay works for private selling.
Anyway, I recently sold my old Apple phone on there for around £100 with free postage and after fees I got roughly £85. Just my luck I was preparing packing materials on my desk and knocked the phone off it on to the floor, smashing the screen. I contacted the buyer to say the phone was damaged and I had initiated a refund and apologised for this. but he didn't respond.
I got my £85 odd in the bank already from the sale. Monzo have said on the app that there is a pending payment to be taken out on Monday (refund)....I've logged in yesterday and discovered my car insurance DD has been taken, leaving me with about £10 in there so obviously not enough for Ebay to take on Monday.
sO, my question is...has the buyer already been refunded from Ebay so he's got his cash and then they will just take it from my bank? I've never run in to this problem before and worried now as I don't get paid until this Thursday and the buyer wont have his money for a phone that he wont get. I am currently using an ancient phone until I get paid to go and get a new contract. I did message the buyer
Don't get me wrong, I fully intend to pay Ebay the money owed - It just can't be till Thursday. I litterally have no one I can borrow money off either. I feel bad as the buyer didn't get the phone he bought, nor may he get his money until really late. The buyer hasn't sent me any Ebay messages so far either
Has anyone got any advice here? Anyone an Ebay veteran? Thanks!

You can change the primary payment method. I didn't particularly like eBay trying to take money from my bank account for refunds as this account is used only for eBay sales and is periodically cleared of funds, so rather than a failed payment, I changed my primary payment method to my credit card.
Taken directly from eBay:
Refunding your buyer as a seller is simple. Refunds can be issued by you, or by eBay.Depending on the situation, there are a number of ways a refund can be issued. As a seller, you can issue refunds through Seller Hub or My eBay. You can also issue a refund through a cancellation or return request, or a report that an item hasn't arrived.Additionally, eBay can issue a refund to your buyer as the result of an eBay Money Back Guarantee case or payment dispute. When eBay issues a refund to a buyer, we may deduct the full amount from the seller for reimbursement. How refunds workWhen you offer your buyer a refund, the amount will be paid from the total of your Available, Processing, and On hold funds. If you don’t have enough funds to cover the cost of the refund, the amount will be paid from your linked bank account or an on-file payment method. For example, if you issue your buyer a £100 refund and only have £80 in Available, Processing, and On hold funds, your payout bank account or on-file payment method will be used to fund the remaining £20When eBay issues a refund to your buyer on your behalf due to an eBay Money Back Guarantee case or payment dispute, the amount will be deducted from the total of your Available, Processing, and On hold funds. If the total of your Available, Processing, and On hold funds are insufficient to cover the outstanding amounts you owe, eBay will charge your on-file payment method for the remaining amounts owed within 14 days. We may add up the amounts you owe into a single charge. All the details related to these charges will be visible on your Financial statement.TipYou can choose a preferred on-file payment method to cover the refund amounts if your funds are insufficient. Please ensure your payment method is up to date to avoid any charge failure.Incidentally, what would you have done if your car insurance payment had failed (you don't have to answer this, just something to consider)?0 -
As above if you have a secondary payment method ebay will use that. If not and your monzo account allows allows you to go overdrawn then your money will be taken leaving you in overdraft . If it is imposisble to go overdrawn then the direct dent will fail and you will be charged a fee by ebay- and they will continue to chase you for the money and may even try the DD again. If it is at all poissble the best way would be to find the shortfall and get it transferred into Monzo immediately to avoid this costing you extra.Incidentally you are not a private seller, you are a business as you buy to resell - and that makes it doubly important to ensure this does not casue issues as if you ar eusing a private bank acocunt you really need to stay under their radar in case they force you to change to a business account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There's nothing I can do until Thursday so I guess I'll expect a call from either the bank or Ebay. I'm usually pretty good at managing my payments and DD but had a few unexpected costs this month and got myself in a bit of a mess.0 -

Yeah, I'm well under the radar in regards to my Ebay account - Keep under the allowed listings and sales revenue for them to leave me alone0
