Is it time to replace my old car...

Hey all,

I'd love some advice from you. My 2005 Vauxhal Astra (1.4 petrol z14xep engine) failed me today.

On a day out it cut out and I couldn't get it started, a 5 hour wait for a recovery truck and a 2 hour drive later I'm home...

I've pulled the OBD2 codes:
p1614 - seems like the car thinks I'm using the wrong key...

These are all fuel injector circuit failure codes:
P0201
P0203
P0204
P0202

Does anyone have any ideas what could cause all of the fuel injectors to fail at the same time like this?

What kind of repair cost is this likely to set me back...

The cars done 175k, is it time to send it off to the scrap yard in the sky?

The car has some good points, tyres are all less than 18 month old, it's got new brakes all round, near rear suspension, drives solid and until today it had never let me down.

The thing never passes MOT's first time though, and I suspect the exhaust might also be leaking...

I'd love your thoughts

Thanks

It sounds like it is time for the Astra to go.

Selecting the next vehicle is then a case of assessing your needs and wants and finding the suitable solution.  Number of passengers, amount of luggage to carry, total mileage, type of mileage (local, main road etc), desired equipment...

P1614 is an immobiliser code. Did the immobiliser light on the dash stay on? Have you got a second key?

The four injector codes are more likely to be related to a single fault point than to all four independently going south simultaneously.

At a wild guess, I'd start looking for a dodgy earth.

If it's just a possible dodgy earth cable then no reason to scrap the car for that. If immobiliser has failed that might be a bit more expensive
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Never mind, it was the fuel pump fuse...

Quite how the RAC man missed that I don't know.

The question you might need to ask yourself is why did the fuse blow as if it's down to some worn wiring you may find it blowing again.

With the last Vauxhall I had, it was the sensors which were the least reliable part in the chain.
