Electricity only

Options
I've just had a message from MSE about my being switched from Symbio to Eon. The message mentions there are no tariffs worth switching to except one electric only tiddler. Anyone know who the tiddler is?

Presumably Neon Reef, who (personally) I doubt are long for this world.

Log into your CEC account and find out.

I thought Martin said yesterday on his TV show that whilst that information was correct 2 weeks ago when he was discussing it last, that option has now gone

As Neon Reef are still around (and haven't changed their tariff recently), then the negative suggestion by the @GingerTim is obviously incorrect.

GingerTim merely suggested that in their (and many others) opinion NR would not be around for much longer.  Selling energy at below cost cannot work out well for any supplier and is one of the main reasons for the current swathe of failures as not many of the smaller companies could afford to hedge and buy large quantities in advance.  One could wonder what their motive is.

Far from being a tiddler, but you won't go far wrong with this tariff from British Gas that @Gerry1 secured:

Lots of other MSE users just like you have said they too have managed to secure it.

But @Gerry1 was the first to apparently do so as a new customer.

You won't find it on any comparsion site, nor even as a quote from the BG site, but the tariff is there on the full list. Ignore the fact it says it may not be available to new customers, as that has obviously proven not to be the case. :)

    Go get it!

It'll probably be quite a battle, and it seems to be only available by Chat, but it's certainly worth trying.  I'm told I'll start on the Standard Variable tariff but I can then change it to Zero Fixed Oct 22 and it will be backdated.  Hope that's honoured, or it'll be the Ombudsman !

Yes - I just can't see how their unit price is in any way sustainable, particularly if we assume they will have had a good number of switches to them following other companies going bust (including NR's own parent company).

Oh, it shouldn't be too difficult to obtain once you are a British Gas customer, as @microcristallina attested to

Also available by phone, a freephone number at that, as per post by @akaWooders

Admittedly, some posters were refused at first request, but try, try, try again, and they all seem to have got it. :)

@dbks I escalated matters when I was told that Zero Fixed Oct 22 wasn't available to new customers, but a manager called me back, it was agreed amicably and the app was quickly updated to show progress.  I shouldn't really be a Doubting Thomas !
However, the experience of the others dates back to mid August before everything went topsy-turvy, so I'm hoping my chickens will hatch soon after 25 October...
