The red travel list for people travelling to England and Wales from abroad will only contain seven destinations from next week under changes announced by transport secretary Grant Shapps this evening. But a date has yet to be set for when lateral flow tests will replace pricier PCR tests for double vaccinated travellers.

As many threads on this forum show - travellers have been caught out ( and out of pocket ) by assuming that if a country is not on the UK’s Red list it means you will be able to enter that country for a holiday.  Before booking a holiday anywhere travellers need to be aware that the country you plan to visit will have set its own restrictions-you need to check these before booking anything .

It’s up to passengers to check before booking as you will not automatically qualify for a refund if you book a flight to a destination that won’t allow you to enter. Some examples are :

India - Travellers irrespective of their vaccination status will undergo mandatory quarantine at home or at the destination address for 10 days after arrival in India.

USA: at present is not possible for most British nationals to enter the USA

Thailand : arrivals need to quarantine for 14 days

    Australia :
Entry to Australia is currently closed to most arrivals.

Japan : entry not permitted until further notice
