Hi all,
My energy supplier went bust two weeks ago today. Been transferred to EDF on what I imagine will be an extortionate tariff.
I didn’t see the email so didn’t take a reading until today. My last reading previous to that was in April.

What will they do? Will they charge me the new rate since April? Or will they work out an average of what was used over the last two weeks?
Thanks
Nat

Send one in as soon as you can. They can then make a better estimate for the date they ceased trading.Enter the reading on both EDF's and the old supplier site, if the latter is possible, and take a photo of the meter at the same time, in case of disputes.1

It won't be an extortionate tariff, it will be a default/SVR tariff that will be protected by the price cap until April 2022. It will also beat any other tariff that you will find at the moment. Two weeks is not a long time. Take a reading now, including a photo, and also one in a few days, to show current usage. They will not charge you the new rate since April, only since they took over the supply. The more information you can get about your usage now, the better placed you will be to argue what the reading at takeover should be.2

Thats why you should read the meter monthly, send in readings, check yoor bills and download them.
You are never more than a month out of date - it's a bit late when it's all gone belly upNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers3 -
The SoLR can only charge you for energy used from the date that it was appointed. The meter reading that you have provided to the SoLR will be industry-validated and it will be used to close the failed supplier’s account.1

Thanks everyone. First timers only moved in this year so it’s all a learning curve. Some more expensive than others0
