Cheap Energy Club - pausing their alert service.
Why?
I've just seen the email from the Cheap Energy Club, saying they are pausing the alert service as per Martin's request.
I know the email was sent 2 days ago, but it ended up in my spam folder - haha!
Anyway, the question is: Why?
According to the email, it says:
"You chose for us to tell you via email when there are cheaper and better tariffs you can switch to, based on your Pick Me A Tariff preferences. These deals don’t exist at the moment. So we simply won’t be sending you any alerts, though if you’re on a fixed deal right now, we will let you know when your tariff is about to end, which means you’ll be moved on to a price-capped tariff."
and also:
"
If you do want to compare the cheapest deals based on your preferences or the whole market, you can do so on the site itself. But they will almost certainly be substantially more expensive than you are paying – which is why I don’t feel it is right for a MoneySaving site to be sending you alerts asking you to pay a lot more. I hope you understand."
I'm sorry, but I do not understand the suppposed logic here.
I accept I chose the Cheap Energy Club to tell me via email when there are cheaper and better tariffs I can switch to.
(I also set a minimum amount I wished to save before being alerted)
I accept that as I am on a fixed tariff agreed some time ago, I very much doubt that I will get any alerts at this time of rising prices.
But why switch off/pause the service???
If there are no cheaper deals, then I should not be sent any alerts. I thought that was how the system was designed to operate when it was running.
What is this new system being mentioned that will "be sending you alerts asking you to pay a lot more", if the service was not paused?

- Then let’s hope in the meantime that wholesale prices drop and cheaper switchers' tariffs become available. If and when that happens, we will of course restart the alerts.

Because 'cheap energy' is not really a thing any more.0

It is actually cheaper (in the short term at least) to "do nothing" and while you won't save money, you'll keep the extra cost to a minimum.Cheap Energy Club is a business, and should make a profit for its owners. It can't do that at the moment, so while it must be largely automated, maybe they can switch off parts of it and reduce the running costs. With prices and tariffs changing so quickly, they probably can't keep up anyway.

I had an email alert set for gas and electricity deals that would save me £50+ per year.
Currently, there are 21 deals that would save me between £52 and £105 per year for the gas and electricity I use, yet I still haven't received an email alert.
Why hasn't the email alert been triggered now that there are cheaper deals available?

Have they definitely turned the alerts back on again? I am sure they were stopped during the peak of the energy crisis.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
