    Have you found a suitable property for only £20k?  I had a quick look on Rightmove and in the areas where housing is relatively cheap there wasn’t much for that money and a lot of them go to auctions.   Most auction properties go for more than the guide price and/or need a lot of money spent on them.  I don’t think you’ll get one that just needs a coat of paint.

    you say in your original post that you have to move to social housing?  Cant you stay where you are?  Most people would stab you in the back to get a social housing property.

    Im wondering as you get all your rent and council tax paid you would be better off not buying.   My husband and I bought a “fixer upper” when we got together and it was non stop pay out.
