Symbio Problems
Options
Have been with Symbio for nearly three years and my monthly usage has never exceeded 280 Kwts yet they constantly estimated my monthly usage as 450 ever since they fitted smart meter, which they couldn't read and refused to accept my meter readings because they were lower than previous readings. Eventually they billed me for £1500.00 when in fact they owed me £150.00 I've cancelled direct debit as couldn't possibly pay £1500.00.
Am worried about new supplier requesting £1500.00

The new supplier shouldn't bill you £1500 as their reconciliation should be done on meter readings and not random estimates
If you've been sending in monthly readings and saving your monthly bills/statements like everyone has been advising for months then you'll have evidence of your meter readings and payments going back to when you joined them.
You did download it all didn't you and not just rely on what was on the website - you could still take screenshots if you can still get into your account.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
I received all my bills as a pdf file every month via email automatically. Anyone who hasn't deleted their emails will already have their billing history.I've had the same experience, they ignored my readings of the new smart meter they couldn't read and I've ended up £100s in credit.I've cancelled the direct debit from my bank, so they can't take any more. Eon had previously stated that they'd try to transfer the existing DDs but have now stated that they'll need to set up new DDs for everyone, so there's no benefit in leaving it running.I think Eon and/or Ofgem may be quite shocked at the amounts they need to refund. If the mass-scale overbilling and ignoring of meter readings was intentional then there should be criminal consequences for the former directors.0

Make sure you have the opening reading for the meter when you joined Symbio, the reading from that meter on the date they took it out and the opening reading for the new one. Have a reading from the meter for 3 October if possible or use the most recent you have got. Use your records to work out how much the proper charges for energy supplied by Symbio (including standing charges) should be, and how much you have actually paid them. Take into account any changes of tariff over the time you have been with them. You may need a little spreadsheet. Then you will know exactly how much is owed to you. I was only with Symbio since June this year but my trusty spreadsheet (which goes back to 1983) enabled me to keep track of their strange behaviour.
