  • First check you have downloaded it from a reputable website - ie the Bluestacks site itself.

If that is all ok, then it is just a conflict with your anti-virus - some packages like BitDefender don't agree with it and mark it as malicious. You can either switch your anti-virus off when you install it or mark it as an exception to allow installation.

Many thanks for your prompt reply.
    Please be advised:
    • I have downloaded from Bluestacks.
    • I am using Windows Defender, but there seems to be a problem Windows Defender is turned off and I cannot turn it back on.

I suggest that you install Malwarebytes and let it remove whatever you have infected your machine with. ***

*** Sorry, that's rather unkindly put, but the point is well meant, ie you may have installed something you didn't mean to, and it's worth checking.

    You've done a reboot, I take it?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

FWIW I've installed the NOX Android emulator on my W10 Home laptop (using Windows Defender, which is running OK) and it installed (and works) just fine ... it is presently emulating a Samsung Galaxy S21 (I think - on my work laptop just now so can't check).

No offence taken, please be advised:
    • I have run Malwarebytes = no items found
    • I have run Hitman Pro = one tracking cookie found
    • I have run CCleaner

I restarted PC and downloaded Bluestacks
I still have issue with Windows Defender. It is turned off and I cannot turn it back on.

Have you previously had an alternative AV package which hasn't properly uninstalled?

It sometimes won't turn on in the presence of another anti-virus packages, especially if real time scanning is enabled on that package.

Are any other AV packages installed right now?

Also run Windows Updates to check if any updates for it are pending. Also check time and date are correct.

That is what Windows help says.
I do not have any other AV installed.
The PC did come with Norton which I dislike and removed.
I have searched and have not found any orphan remnants from any other program.
