Hi everyone,
I've been away having my Esben time for the last two days. As ever he was a joy, he's such a happy little boy most of the time, he'll be two in just four weeks, it's gone so quickly. Yesterday we ended up at a super children's playground in Hertford and he ran about for a couple of hours. He was shattered on the way home so we were singing to keep him awake. Singing Old Macdonald I was pausing after "and on that farm he had a......" so that he could fill in the animals. He started very conventionally with cow, horse chicken etc but then obviously decided it was an unusual farm and we had owl, turtle and kangaroo among others. It was a bit of a challenge trying to decide the sound some of them make but kangaroo was easy because we channelled Skippy, the bush kangaroo.
We were supposed to be doing a quiz with our four quizzing friends tomorrow, the first for 2 years. Unfortunately we have been told they have oversold the tickets so there would be no chance of any distancing which is a concern because as well as Steve's lymphoma one of the others has leukaemia. As a result we have cancelled and will go to dinner in a couple of weeks with our friends.
Today will be a quiet day, food shop, cleaning and sewing on the agenda. I thought Steve would be golfing but apparently not, or at least not so far. I quite enjoy my few hours of alone time when he is on the course.
We've rejigged our monthly consumable budgets (I say we, Steve is the one who does it, he loves a spreadsheet). Food budget has gone up quite a bit but everything else was not too bad.
Sunflower, I hope your day is full of happy reminiscences.
Hester, I hope Steve is a bit less grumpy today.
Thoughts are with all the poorlies and carers.8 -
Morning! Grey and dry. Thames Water have until 11am to fulfill their promise to be here in 72 hours. I am not holding my breath. Its still blocked but not as bad as when it rains. I got to my haircut yesterday eventually, but I think I may have gone a bit short. There's something about their mirrors that makes your hair look longer. When I got home I realised just how short it was and had a bit of panic until I told myself off, it'll grow...My ears are cold though...I also had a carvery Too Good To Go last night, totally totally worth it, 3.29 for leftovers enough for both of us, full roast with roasties and large yorkie. OH impressed, he said 'we'll do that again...' and I thought, whoa there horsey, 'we'? I suppose that means he's going in next time. Nice of him to volunteer don't you think ?I'm going to Stitch and B*tch tonight, I have finally found my knitting, I'm making another cowl thing as the last one got lost in the cinema a long time ago. The wool it was made with came from Germany and I've never found another that comes close. A friend went there and scoured but found nothing too. Cut the grass yesterday ready for todays green bin, and chopped down a bit of rosemary and hoiked up some borage to fill it up a bit. I do want to empty the compost bin too to leave it go over winter, that may be a job for later. If it rains though, it'll be sewing of some kind.Ruby, hope it improves for you..I find I'm stil getting exhausted whenever I do something, I know when I am though, my breathing changes so it feels a bit rattly. Gers, think everyone has a version of that
Rosy, do you use it regularly? I find whenever I pick up seomthing like that from wherever, i tend to use it a few times the first week then it tapers off to never being used again. Happy new glasses day! I love new pairs of being able to see clearly again... Have a great day folks, if ti's a bit meh, dig out your Christmas chocolate[ you know you have some] and indulge...

Had a good chuckle at all the various geographical 'times' - it must be a rural thing and part of the charm. Most of the tradespeople here are local and respond really quickly to an urgent call. Last winter my cleaner sent me a video of my outside tap pouring water and the big pile of frozen ice that was being made. I phoned my friend the 'water man' and he popped round to turn off the water supply from inside - luckily he'd installed it and had added an isolation tap.The rains arrived but not the torrential ones, it's still fairly mild so no need for the woodburner yet.Snoozer - your singing story made me laugh, such a delightful thing.Taff - did Thames Water turn up?11

Having a day indoors after 4 busy days out. Had a lie in this morning - still in my pjs now. I cover a lot of ground on a Wednesday running around getting teas and coffees to tables. Feeling tired today - will do the ironing - not a lot of it and I love that job. Really need to sort out the kitchen sides - so that will get done - need to move stuff around for my new toy.
