Smart meter BG to Sainsburys energy

We had a smart meter fitted by British gas, then I changed to Avro and it was the same, now I have changed to Sainsburys energy and the plug in display is going crazy, it's showing twice as high usage than it was before, just with the kettle and the grill it shots round to 3/4 in the red zone, hardly ever saw the red zone before now I'm wondering what is correct. I have unplugged it and plugged it back in but it's the same.

I'm not familiar with red zone - is that based on usage in kW or £spend? If the latter, it's highly likely boiling your kettle now costs significantly more than before your switch.0

Hi,if only swapped a few days ago maybe not configured for Sainsbury yet.Can you get into menu and check what tariff you are on.0

The green/amber/red zones are just very rough and ready guidance. They may have changed as a result of the switch, it doesn't matter if they have. The only thing that matters is how many kWs you're using, therefore how many units you clock up. You should be able to mess around in a menu and display your usage in kW, try it and you should see that your kettle is roughly 2-3kW.0

Thanks guys, I am using the same as before, so I wonder if it's always been wrong or it's wrong now..........It's based on KWs used0

The new supplier has to send out security certificates to each of your meters. It can then send out tariff information to the meters which is then picked up by the IHD. In truth, none of this matters. Your supplier will bill you for energy used against the tariff that you are on.0

Yes you are correct, it's scary looking at it now lol, I think I will just unplug it or I will be frightened to put the kettle, microwave and oven on in case it has a meltdown..............[Deleted User] said:The new supplier has to send out security certificates to each of your meters.
