O/S Daily Wednesday 6 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry but, temperature has really dropped. Rain and wind forecast yet again for the coming days. We had gale force winds during the night but it seems to have eased off a bit now, but still very breezy.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO's with some pork loin steaks that I braised in stock that I then made into gravy - I just added fresh veg and some roast potatoes that needed using up from the freezer. Tonight I'm not sure but will organise this afternoon as it's my afternoon off.
Yesterday work was steady and busy but had periods of time where it was manic - can't seem to second guess what it'll be like from one day to the next. Working at the other office today but it's my half day, then should be going to collect my car this afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Ok I am officially fed up with working for a living Its only been 2 days but I miss my dog walks and cosy afternoons ! Oh well I suppose I will get used to it eventually ! I also asked (back in April) to work 4 days a week having Fridays off but nothing has been done about it so I am having to go in for now, I have this Friday off due to an appointment though.
Not sure about dinner tonight I shall look in the freezer after this there is plenty in there, I need to empty the dw before I go this morning.
I spoke with Nels via whatsapp yesterday she is fed up in hospital bless her and cant even have visitors due to covid so it must be so tedious for her, I do pass all of your love on regularly so I hope that helps in some way.
Right better get on hope you all have good days xxxx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Crikey it felt colder than ever when I got up this morning. Heating on again to take off the chill. It's been going on far too much this last week for early October.
The weather yesterday was horrendous, torrential rain and battering winds most of the day. Fortunately none of the floods that were experienced in some parts of the country. And the bonus was it was much quieter for our Tuesday meet up. Probably it kept more sensible people than us indoors! The days of sitting in the beer garden are now behind us but a few hardy souls kept braving the weather and popping out there for a cig.
The forecast says it's going to be sunny all day today after the deluge. That's good as it's bus trip day. All 3 of us today for the first time in ages. We shall have a vote when we meet on which bus to catch out of our limited choice! As long as it involves lunch and a bottle of wine we are not particularly fussy!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones, sad or lonely. Thinking of NELS and MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Have been AWOL for a few days, unwell but a bit better now. Usual tidy up before cleaner comes today and then I will go down to the village coffee morning. The challenge this afternoon is to make progress on some socks I am knitting. It is the first time I have knitted on 4 needles and have unpicked x 3 so far. I am determined not to be beaten!
Hope things improve for you at work RR, must be quite an adjustment.12 -
Morning folks. Thanks for news about Nelski, please pass on a hug from me Ruby. 🥰
Yesterday was a unexpectedly glorious sunny day. For a brief time the sun was hot until the wind picked up. I ended up only going into town and back as the place I wanted to shop at didn't have what I wanted so I'm going back today. Instead I picked and ate the last of the blackberries from the rogue bush in the front garden. It's almost smothered the redcurrant bush so I'll get it cut out now that the fruiting has finished.I was expecting an A*azon delivery by courier so kept the front door open all the time. At teatime I checked the tracking info which told me that it'd been delivered at 1.30pm. A long phone call to them followed, the chap phoned the courier and returned to tell me that the item had been left at my back door. That would have been OK if the driver had first moved my car, opened the big barn door, driven through the barn, opened the door at the other end, done an acute left hand turn, driven up a very narrow passageway, opened the garden door and driven across my lawn to my back door! The garden is fully enclosed. Sheesh. Now it seems to have been delivered to a neighbour so I await further news.Tonight I'm having the long awaited installation of the positive input ventilation (PIV) unit in the loft. This old cottage suffers from a bit of damp and condensation which the unit is supposed to reduce significantly. One chap came last night to suss out the unit and draw a template of the hole on the ceiling. The electrician is doing his bit tonight. The sky outside is bright pink again and tomorrow there's a yellow weather warning for the area so yesterday was an extra bonus. I've a wee packet to post but it'll have to wait for now, the nearest PO is over 30 miles away so it can wait until tomorrow.I'm sending out good vibes to all our poorlies and missing. Happy Wednesday to all.13 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Bright morning, I gave in last night and put the heat on very low, it was soooo cold. apparently its going to be 20 on Friday, if it is the heating will be going off.
Its coffee morning at the little chapel, I am expecting an Amazon delivery which has a password to make sure it goes to the right person. I am waiting for an email to tell me what time they will get here, will let DB go round for coffee and follow him once its delivered.
Cancelled our milk delivery from today, will have enough to see us through to Sunday.
I need to soak the stabilizer off the ornaments and also the lace mat I made yesterday, will give them a light press once they are dry. I have found another set of ornaments, may sew them out as well.
Beef stew for supper tonight with veggies. Raspberry jelly for dessert. Think I put too much water in the jelly, its rather soft.9 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning all. Sunny! Bet you weren't expecting that...Neither was I! Yesterday got some veg from Lidl, and eggs, finally, so made a bacon [ cooking] leek and brocolli quiche [used up the goats cheese I'd bought a few weeks ago for friends evening that never got used] and some pea and ham soup. I think I could have chucked some more dried peas in but I topped it up with the packet of fresh ones I'd had in my Too Good To Go bags last week or the week before. One or two of them had started sprouting and there were a couple of black ones but the rest went in the soup and provide a nice popping texture. I chucked in some garlic and a piece of celery for a change to see what would happen. Verdict = nice. There's a lemon cake mix or brownie mix or something I know I have to use, so I might do that later.Mostly sanded the table, just some detail bits to go over, then I can find something in the fabric stash to cover the top. So that's todays job. And try and get to town to have my hair cut. I much prefer it really short, it's so much easier to look after.Ruby, sorry you're knackered, could you cut your hours down a little more to start with? Might be worth going to the docs or having a think about whether you have a bit of fatigue going on. Nanny, hope they find something minor...you must be really frazzled with the worry by now....Scarlet, safe trip. TA, that is your new life motto and mine too..As long as there's wine, we're not fussy Take care of yourselves, indulge yourselves, watch out for the coming heatwave..Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12

Morning all. Lovely and sunny here so I'll be hanging out some washing soon.
It was so cold yesterday we put the heating on for the first time. It seems a bit early in the month to have it on regularly, especially as we're forecast a couple of nice days. When I was working I remember I used to put off wearing tights to the office until October, although some years I gave in early.
Being stuck at home all day today I think I might have a go at cleaning the oven door and then maybe the door on the grill. Other than that there's always the dusting, although I could save that treat for tomorrow!
Made a large portion of cauliflower cheese yesterday so will have the remainder today, with a lamb steak and some roasted carrots. There are still a few raspberries in the garden so will pick those later.
Take care all and hope Nelski is reading along.11 -
Morning all,it seems a much better day today, nice and sunny for a change. After dogwalking I realised I hadn't taken the birthday card to my cousin to pop in the post box near the park, so back out again minus DDog. There is only 1 collection a day at 9 & tomorrow would be cutting it a bit fine.On the way back I met a neighbour who looked aghast when she saw me, and I realised she thought something bad had happened to DDog, had to quickly reassure her -she was very relieved . There's no way I would have got her out twice & DH had just made toast, her fave titbitSpeaking of DH, he turned up at midday, soaked to the skin- they decided to call it a day- no fun putting a roof on in torrential rain. Announced that we should go out for some lunch- who am I to argue! By the time he'd showered & changed, decided where to go and got served it was getting later & we didn't need any tea, apart from a choc chip cookie I made when we got back at DS request ( he'd seen a packet mix in the cupboard - I didn't tell him the BB date was Feb 21 - they tasted fine )I do need a tidy up, but is it worth it as the DGC will be here after school, I ask myselfHope you have a good break CsarinaThanks for the Nels update RR.Hugs to her & you- I suppose being at work again will take some time to get used to. Anyone heard from AOD? not seen a post from her for ages, hope she is ok.Bye for now x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Good Morning
Had a lovely lie in this morning.
Dry and bright here this morning although a little chilly, got one load of washing on the line, another in the machine and another to go in afterwards. Will leave changing the bed until tomorrow.
Going to try to sort the garden today, got a long list of jobs to do may not get them all done today, but the weather forecast gives dry for the next few days.
Just topping up on coffee before I start.
Have a good day x10
