Igloo Energy Bonus

Along with my credit in account I also have bonus amount for switching and referrals which I "could of" used against my bill. I guess it is unlikely I will see this as it isn't true cash but on the off chance who do I speak to. I notice I can no longer access the bonus page on Igloo.

If it doesn't appear as an item in your normal billing account then it will not be protected so you are just another unsecured creditor unfortunately...
You can contact the administrators, but your chances of a payout are very low indeed.

You should've converted that to credit, definitely lost now i'm afraid.

I notice OFGEM very recently has changed wording from "all credit balances protected" to "Funds that former and current customers have paid into their accounts will be protected if they are in credit" uses latter phrase more often now, I am wondering whether reason for this change in wording as regards other credits that have been added to accounts and reflected within monthly billing.
Igloo used the phrase on its website before SOLR was announced

That is interesting, especially for those who were benefitting from some of the more crazy schemes like the 10% bonus on advance payments that one supplier was offering, as those bonuses would not be protected with that wording…
  • Thanks for the clarification all. It is as I suspected. Unfortunately I took my eye off the ball and had no idea Igloo (who I joined in April) were in trouble.

It would also appear based on the above that the 3% interest earned from them swelling the direct debit will also not see the light of day (although that does at least appear as credit).
  • Personally, I very much hope that once the dust settles that Ofgem will take another hard look at cashback and interest schemes. The Ofgem Consumer Levy which protects consumer credits is paid for by all energy consumers in the form of higher bills.
