Mixing engine oil leftovers for the next oil change, good idea?

Hi,

I have a Toyota Yaris 2008 1.3 VVT-i, Engine model 2SZ-FE

When I bought the car a few months ago, I realised that its engine oil level is so low. I bought a 1L engine oil, which turned out to be not enough, so I got this Castrol 5w-30 LL:

Castrol Edge 5W30 Oil 4L 251215

I used about 1 Litre of this, leaving another 3 litres.

I was then told that maybe the engine has no issues and the reason for the low oil level could be that the previous owner used a cheap brand. I was advised to actually do an oil change (as I didn't really know the proper history of the car), so after a month I got a Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A5 (recommended by most websites for my engine) and changed the oil:

Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A5 Oil 4 Litre 918672

It's been 5 months since the oil change and I've driven over 1200 miles and the oil level hasn't changed (or at least it's not noticeable), which is good.

Nonetheless, I am left with 1L of the A5 oil and 3L of the LL oil in my booth and I have no room in my place. The question is, what should I do with these? is it ok to mix them for the next oil change?

I don't want to ruin the engine if mixing makes things imperfect, but on the other hand, these two oil models seem pretty similar. Are they mixable?

What does your owner's handbook actually say?

Opie, one of the better oil suppliers, suggest the Castrol LL - but 0w20.
On the other hand, Castrol themselves suggest either of those is just fine, as would be 10w40 Magnatec...

Those are going to be absolutely miscible, yes. TBH, I'd just chuck the dog-end of the A5 into the LL bottle now, to save storage space.

The owner's handbook suggests Toyota's oil, but it's written in 2008! I found the oil for £65 somewhere, so expensive, and the online reviews didn't give it a good rating either.

Fabulous, thanks. Saving some space in the booth was my main concern for now, glad that they are mixable

It will give a viscosity and it will give the required approvals.

No problem in mixing those at all.

For the viscosity, it says 5w-30 is fine.
For the approvals, these look Chinese to me:

P.s. just mixed the oils. Such a relief after 6 months of keeping two containers 😅👍

firstly the correct oil for your yaris is 5w30. so no problems there. secondly yes those two oils can be mixed. they are both the same grade, and are good qaulity makes. so all is good.

If you change the oil yourself you'll need the empty container for the old oil.
