They could make a cheeky offer on the promise they'll take the legal expense in resolving the protected tenancy issue?
I'd contact Shelter as per the Artfullodger.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

The Landlord has plans for the property, it is in a lovely spot, but not to sell, he will not be selling, he says he needs it for family, but we have heard that before when them bought the farm and did not do as what they said they were going to to the previous owners of the farm.  What ever happens if we move out, this is not really our are concern, we just would like the best financial outcome for us.

Just to explain there is no contract as such because we have lived here with an agricultural tie (meaning it was with a job) as this was a long time ago.  Now in these situations you pay a small rent and there is an agreement.
Eventually this type of protect tenancy will die out when people die or move out.

He can have all the plans he likes - he can't put them into practice while he has tenants in that property. And your tenancy is protected, so he cannot easily issue you notice.

    Is the right answer.

The ball is in your court. It is up to him to come up with a number - and it needs to be large enough to compensate you for losing the security of your protected tenancy.

The back story to it is irrelevant. What matters is that your tenancy is what it is. And, yes, it is time-limited, and at some point in the future it will cease to be an issue for him. Or his own heirs.

At that point, they can implement those plans. Until then... Stand firm.
