Car Trade Centre- Rotherham

Purchased a Volvo V40 for £9k (part finance) on the 26th July from the car trade centre.

Whilst driving home noticed a big chip on the windscreen.
This was supposed to have been checked as part of their 99 point check.

Booked in for replacement windscreen.

Next day, we noticed a problem with the clutch and the engine warming light kept coming in for the coolant.
Report these to dealer.

Car was in garage 2 days. Fixed clutch and coolant. Wrong size screen so not fitted.

In drive home, coolant light came on again.
Clutch sticking to floor again. Rebooked in garage, car was in 3/4 days.

3 days later, coolant light again. Collected on truck as I refused to drive.
Garage said light wasn’t present when collected (it was as I showed it to truck driver)
has for over a week, light came back on at 150 miles test drive.

Car still in garage , now 3 weeks. Needs new engine as head gasket eroded.

Garaging fitting refurbished engine.

What’s our options?
Can we ask for different car?
Can we get refund with finance?
What can we do?

If the garage are fitting a reconditioned engine, free of charge, won't that solve the major problem?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

We don’t want the car back. We don’t trust them. We don’t  know the history of the refurbished engine.
Any ideas on what we can do?

Firstly (and great with hindsight) you don't buy a car from a website advertising 'UKs Cheapest Cars' without expecting some issues/doing your homework.

I too would be walking away from something with a replacement engine unless they're replacing with a new one - you really need to be following the instructions for rejection and involving the finance company given their interest in the vehicle

Out of interest where is the car now ?

You don't know the history of the original engine either.

You have purchased a used car, so a used engine does not seem entirely unreasonable.  I think you'd almost certainly be going for a used / recon engine if it was your own money.  If that is not acceptable, could you pay the difference in cost between the recon engine they propose to fit and the new engine you wish to have?

The car is still at the garage. They’ve had it for the last 3 1/2 weeks.

I checked all the paperwork and online information about the car prior to purchase and look where that got me.
No advisory on MOTs, full service history, nothing came up on the reports.
