Igloo just deducted a months worth of energy from my credit after going bust?

So after Igloo went bust, I was £256 in credit with them, they asked me to submit a meter reading as they've done with all customers. They promptly then generated a new bill and deducted £69 from my credit for the last months usage.

I don't know really about this, but should that be happening if they've gone bust? I thought credit and meter readings should now be all going over to E.On?

You are still liable to pay the old supplier for energy used before the supply was taken over by the SOLR. If you don't have the credit they will send a bill.

Suppliers do not legally go ‘bust’ until Ofgem has appointed a SoLR which ensures that there is no break in supply. It follows that there has to be a handover reading between the SoLR and the failed supplier. The failed supplier’s Receiver is entitled to seek payment for all energy supplied up until the time that Igloo’s Supply Licence was revoked. The SoLR can only bill from the date of its appointment under deemed contract terms.

Don't panic. It will all come out in the wash.
When you transfer to your new supplier (E.ON Next) they will ask for meter readings and will use those to decide how much energy was used at the Igloo rates, and how much at your new rates. You will be billed accordingly.

Until the point of transfer your debt remains with the old supplier.  The creditors of the company will will wish to recover as much of their money as possible. Otherwise it could lead to a chain reaction of companies going bust.

So this is all entirely normal? Good! I thought for a second they shouldn't have been doing that :-)

    Thanks

Some suppliers that have ceased trading in the past have continued to take DDs while the SoLR is sorting out the account transfer

Any such extra DDs taken will usually be added to the new SoLR account balance
