WeBuyAnyCar ‘damage’ valuation.

The WeBuyAnyCar website asks for information about existing accident damage and also if the car has ever been  written by insurance.

We have a vehicle that had a repair in recent months to the offside doors following an accident;... the (insurance claim) repair was carried out successfully by the insurance companies recommended repair centre.

The vehicle hasn’t been ‘categorized’.

Are we obliged to declare this ‘repair’ to Webuyanycar  for valuation purposes?

  • If it's not recorded and the repair has been done to a decent standard then no I wouldn't declare it and I doubt any of the WBAC 'experts' (from what I've heard) would spot it anyway although they could all have differing levels of skill at appraising I spose.

Depends on the exact wording of the question. If they ask you if it has ever been written off the answer is obviously no. If they ask if it currently has any existing damage the answer is also no, assuming the repairs have been done to a high standard. OTOH if they ask if it has ever been damaged and repaired then yes you would have to tell them. (Whether they'd find out if you didn't tell them is another matter).

In case it helps ... By the time I'd declared the damage, I got a much better price from Cazoo.

Writing off is when the insurer choose not to repair the car, but to simply pay you its value instead.
If the insurer repaired it, they didn't write it off.

The categories are allocated to a car when it is written off, to describe why and how bad the damage was that the insurer chose not to repair.
  • Thanks for the replies.

They don’t actually ask if it’s been damaged and repaired on the website but I wonder if they ask that question when you take the car to their premises?

If the car has had previous owners how could the present owner possibly be able to answer that question with any accuracy?

I’ve bought countless used cars in the past and I’ve never been made aware of previous repairs.

If the car hasn’t been written-off is there an audit-trail of the car’s repair history that is readily accessible?

Is it existing damage - no
Has it ever been written off - no

Really no need to look at it any deeper than that.
They're only interested in the 'now', the fact it had a bump X years ago is completely irrelevant, as long as it's been repaired sufficiently well for them to sell it on.

I've just entered car details for valuation:      WBAC = £17,000      Cazoo = £19475

Do Cazoo flatter to deceive ?...or is it that WBAC are just a bit stingy because they pay Philip Schofield so much?

Cazoo are basically cutting the middle man out.
The way it worked before, WBAC (owned by British car auctions) bought the car from you, then the likes of Cazoo went along to the auction and bought stock at a price greater than £17000.
Who knows how much more though, until the auction is done (then there's commission to pay as well).
Boom, WBAC have made their profit from all that.
Now Cazoo arwe buying straight from you, no middle man auction, so can afford to pay more to secure it.
