Texaco, their rewards & the (android) app?

For anyone who fuels up at Texaco and is a member of their rewards scheme and also uses the app .... how do you do it?
I've started going to Texaco recently after being a Shell customer for the past 10 years or so as our local Texaco is now 3p per litre cheaper. Only thing is i have to remember to put my rewards card in the car as I can't work the app.
My phone is a (Samsung Galaxy S10) android. I've gone to use the app but i must've been doing something wrong as when i put it to the contactless thing, nothing worked. We gave it 3 or 4 goes but there was a queue forming so in the end I gave up, got no points & left. Since this i just try to remember my card but it'd be easier if I could pick up the points by using the app as I'm already paying for the fuel with my phone anyway.
So how exactly do you do it?
