New lintel - is Building Regs approval needed?

Is Building Regs approval needed to install a new lintel above a window, or can a FENSA window fitter do it?
Thanks

  • The only lintels I have seen have all required BC, but they have all been above doorways. Am interested to know the rules for windows.

The lintels require sign off.  Fensa only covers glazing.

I'm not actually sure what the strict rule is when replacing an existing lintel.  There are other rules that just say that things you replace shouldn't be any worse than the original.     We've never installed glazing where we didn't have building control coming in anyway.

Last window I had replaced needed a lintel inserted for the outer leaf. Kinda assumed that the FENSA certificate covered it and didn't involve Building Control.
