We have booked to fly to Sicily on Oct 24.  I have a 12 year old and 10 year old.  They both have Covid currently.  The Italian health website mentions proof of recovery is all which is needed but I phoned my doctors and 119 and both of them were no use.

Where can I obtain this from once they are out of isolation?

    Negative PCR test results?
I know you can sometimes get false positives after recovering from Covid, but I can’t think of anything else on offer.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

It’s not a service provided by NHS but If you search internet for “ certificate of recovery from Covid uk  “ you will find private doctors that will provide the certification required by Italy ( and other countries)

This can be issued no earlier than 11 days after the initial positive SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test. The ones I saw cost around £175 each.

I also have a trip to Italy in half term, but my interpretation of the Italian entry requirements are that as a list D county, a negative molecular or antigen swab test is needed by anyone (regardless of vaccination status, or recovery from covid) when travelling to Italy  from the UK within 48 hours of departure.

it does specifically say that an individual travelling from UK must not only do the test but also show a Digital COVID-19 Certificate or equivalent that certifies the person is vaccinated. (certificate of recovery not accepted) otherwise there is a self isolation requirement.

Finally, children will not have a vaccination certificate. This flummoxed me for ages, but I was kindly pointed in the direction of the Italian ministry of foreign affairs website by an Italian colleague. Here you can take a survey  (see link at end with English survey) after completing this survey when travelling from UK to Italy children who don’t have vaccination certificates are exempt from self isolation if accompanied by adults who have been vaccinated.

    1. Self-isolation
    • From 0 to 17 years of age, minors are exempt from the requirement of self-isolation if they are accompanied by a parent who is also exempt from such requirement because of the possession of a certificate of vaccination (or a certificate of recovery, if applicable based on the history of travel in the previous 14 days).

No wonder no one is travelling yet, it’s so complex trying to figure it all out.

I find all the test requirements for each country quite bewildering. I spoke to a few Italian colleagues who have recently traveled to Italy from Uk and back and they confirmed that a pre-departure test (can be rapid antigen test) is needed.

this one seems pretty cheap, but I’m on here to see if there are cheaper ones.

I’m also keen to find out when return to UK will allow lat flow instead of PCR and find a cheap one.

This whole industry of tests is a joke. I have spoken to another colleague of mine who did a test at an airport centre who swabbed outside of his nostrils (ie brushing skin of his nose) whist laughing saying “enjoy your holiday” it’s a bit of a sham and some of the test centres are cowboys.

Looking at the travel advice on uk gov website -

You all need negative Covid tests to enter Italy and unvaccinated ( including children ) need a green pass to board international flights- to get this they need to take a test within 48 hours before return flight.

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/coronavirus

something else to check out for your return flight back to the UK.
