Why would it nor be legal?
Vets are a private business and set their own charges. They could have just increased the price of the tablets but have shown the separate charge for dispensing the prescription.
My vet has just put up a notice that they will be charging for completing insurance forms. I have never paid for this before while using several different vet practices.
Like other businesses they have to recoup expenses incurred over lockdown- PPE fro example,1 -
I lived at the vets with my gang but to be honest I can't remember. I do know that sometimes vets use human drugs and when my vet dispensed them there was a charge.
Just give them a call and ask. Maybe they have always done it and now they are itemising your bill.0 -
I'm a lover of links, and there's one here to explain about vet bills.

You may be able to order some medications online. For example, my cat's laxative is half price when ordered online.
We here in the UK have to pay tax on most things so I guess it's perfectly legal. And your vet probably did charge it before. My vet does and always has done. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
