Driving Licence

I got married in August but I had already booked my driving test in my maiden name so I didn't change my driving licence to my new name. Unfortunately I failed my test, booked a new one and now I've bought a car. I've insured the car using my married name. The insurance company now want photos of my driving licence which is in my maiden name. I have since sent away for a new licence and am waiting for that before I take pics to send to the insurance company.
My question is what do I do about having my new test booked in my maiden name. Do I need to contact the dvla to tell them or will my test be automatically changed to my new name etc? Will my driving licence number stay the same apart from my surname?
Thank you.
