Training Course refusing REFUND - do I have any legal rights?

Hi Evening All,

I purchase an online training course for £3,000.

£1,800 of that was for a coaching section, £1,200 was to pay for an additional 'intensive course'. They recommended that you decide which intensive course that you wanted to do after being on the coaching course for a few weeks to help you make up your mind which course to do as there were about 6 on offer. I realised after a few weeks of doing the coaching that none of the intensive courses were suitable for me.

I asked for a refund just for £1,200 for the intensive course, they told me I had missed the cooling off period and therefore I cannot have a refund. I let them know that I had taken their advice and waited to choose the course and as a goodwill gesture seeing as I was continuing the weekly coaching course could they extend the cooling off period but they have stopped replying to my emails. Do I have any legal rights to try and get the refund?

Unfortunately I paid for it on a debit card so I can't claim it back through the creditcard.

Thanks.

  • I'm not 100% but I doubt that you can claim your money back. Read their terms and conditions especially any small print.

If you can't get your money back you may as well complete the course.

In what way are they not suitable for you?

Do they agree that they are not suitable?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

When I said the courses were not suitable they suggested other courses which I also said were not suitable. They asked me to speak to one of the trainers and when I told her none were suitable she said - I suppose you could get a refund. But customer services are not even replying to me now just sticking to their line of I am out of the cooling off period. I put a post on their facebook group and they took it down straight away and said to go to customer services who are again not replying.

  • What do the terms and conditions say about refunds?
If what they're saying is in line with the T&Cs you're not entitled to a refund - they're under no obligation to extend a cooling off period, so even if you had paid on a credit card they wouldn't help anyway.
