Swopping Direct Debits

Having a senior moment - need to swop my energy from one bank to another. Do I just cancel one and start another with new bank. For the life of me I can't remember what to do!! Thanks.

You contact your energy company and tell them that you want to change the direct debit to a different bank. Give them the new bank details and it's all done for you.

  • Ok - wondered if that was the case. Have tried contacting Outfoxthemarket about it but they haven't got back to me. Will try ringing them again tomorrow. Just didnt want toend up with two dds. Many thanks.

It shouldn't happen. You cannot set a direct debit up, it has to be the company you are paying who set it up..
They will continue to take from the original direct debit until the new one is set up and at that point they will take from the new one. There shouldn't be any overlap.

If it's for a switching bonus you could open a PO savings ac and raise a DD from there. There's a few quirks so come back if you need help doing the DD.

If the switch of DD were to satisfy account opening criteria then the OP needs to know that the PO savings route can take about 20 days to set up (it shouldn't be that long) and may not happen at all and the request would need repeating.  Best to avoid when you have a perfectly good DD to use.

Sometimes you can change the details of the DD from the company's online account. I managed to change the DDs for O2 like that. I presume you can do the same for EON or BT or other utility with online accounts.

The PO DD takes 10 working days and with that I've never experienced a problem. But I understand the quirks, which why I said if you have a problem come back.
