It's the price of gas to energy companies that has shot up. Whether the cost to you will have changed will depend on your current cotract but it will be nothing like the same.

Your gas boiler is still going to be your cheaper option.

Gas has gone up, but electricity has gone up too.  1kWh of mains gas is still much cheaper than 1kWh of mains electricity.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Check your tariff. You may well find that gas is around 4p/kWh and electricity is 20p/kWh. If so, electricity is 5x the price of gas for the same amount of energy, so it will cost around 5x as much to heat your water with electricity rather than gas.
(I've know I've made several assumptions regarding your boiler and water tank but even in combination they're unlikely to change the result enough to make electricity cheaper.)

  • Unless you have solar panels and can use them to provide the electricity for your immersion heater then gas still wins hands down.
