Hello
I'm just reading through the elnur storage heater program setting and the economy/overnight default is 18°C but can be adjusted. I cant see that overnight temperature should be so high as when I had gas radiators at a previous address the heating wasn't on overnight so dropped well below 18°C
They give the following warning
Please note adjusting the default set temperatures can result in higher running costs. We recommend a 3˚C - 5˚C max difference between the economy and comfort temperature
I cant see why the overnight temperature cant be set at single digits prior the heating for the morning being set at a higher temperature.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

A storage heater needs to store enough heat when it charges itself overnight at the cheap rate to keep you suitably warm throughout the rest of the day. The colder you let the house get overnight the more heat the storage heater has to provide during the day. So the more danger there is that it will run out of stored heat and either you get cold or (more likely) it has to use more-expensive day rate electricity to maintain the set temperature. Doing what you propose may not make any difference when it's not too cold outside and the storage heater does not have to provide any heat at night to maintain the economy temperature (or above). In the middle of winter it is liable to cost you money.Reed0
