Just a heads up, Symbio notified that they would take a Direct debit on 8/10 but have already taken it yesterday, have asked the bank to refund, but advised that this may not be possible as the funds may be ring fenced for the eventual new supplier

If they've taken the DD before it was due then you are entitled to reclaim it under the Direct Debit Mandate rules as it was not authorised.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • Yes, but not if ring fenced, according to the bank, just now, depends on the companies situation, i.e. receivership or voluntary.

    Follow the bank's complaint procedure.

    (a) what the bank have told you is nonsense
    (b) the company that actually collects DD payments on behalf of Symbio Energy is not in receivership or voluntary

If/when necessary, escalate to FoS, where you will win

Fancy naming and shaming the bank?

The Direct Debit Guarantee says that if money is wrongly taken, the you are entitled to an immediate refund from the bank.  It makes no difference if somebody has "ring fenced" the money - the bank must give it back to you.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
