You could try https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-v33s-compression-domestic-appliance-tee-piece-connector-white-40mm/4167p installed immediately under the main sink waste. It looks - without actually measuring it - as tho' it could fit.The existing pipe connected to your waste should be telescopic, and slide down into the fitting below to make room. If it doesn't go down far enough, you can trim a bit off the end. You should have a lot of room for error!Anyhoo, it should all be come clear when you start dismantling it to clean and make good the leak.Happy New House! And Happy Lots of Cleaning.

Lube it lightly with - ideally - silicone grease (if you have any), vaseline if you don't, and a smear of washing up liquid if you don't even have that. Do up hand-tight only. What are the wires arrowed in red, or are they plug control cables? And where does the blue arrowed piped go to?I'd personally leave the socket there as it was moved for a reason, as I said probably to release a bit of extra space behind whatever appliance was in that space. You have isolators on the water pipes which means you can shut them off at will and add a valve to supply the D/W. Depending on where that 'blue' pipe goes, you may be able to add your D/W hose there, but we need to know what it's doing at the mo'.Thanks for the help so far everyone, it’s been useful.0

I spose since that rear downpipe bypasses the trap, there's a chance of sewer/drain gas coming out of the plughole - especially when the extractor fan is on!0

As coffeehound has suggested, if the waste pipe goes to a soil pipe then you could be getting foul smells coming back through it. If it goes to an open drain you could be getting cold air blowing back up it.
Either way, I would modify it completely so that everything runs through a trap.
The cables look like they operate(d) a pop up waste.Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.1 -
Cleaned! That was a truly horrible job!
I managed to fix the leak as well. The rear pipe had come completely apart so anything that went down the rear waste just fell straight into the cupboard. Who knows how long it’s been like that for but judging by the mess I expect it’s been a while.
Thats a fair point about the trap, I’ll get it modified. Stupid question but I assume the dishwasher doesn’t need to go via the trap given it’s a sealed unit?2 -
Having googled it a bit it seems it does need to go before the trap so I’ll make sure both sink drains and the dishwasher flow prior to the trap.3

Just thought I’d update this thread. I changed the waste plumbing so everything goes via the trap, added a cold water tap for the dishwasher connection and I now have a working dishwasher! This is pretty much my first plumbing job so it was certainly a learning experience. Thanks for all the advice, it was very helpful.3
