Do basic bank accounts show on credit file?

A number of banks offer something called a basic account, which seems to be distinguished by offering no credit facilities. If there is no possibility of borrowing, do such accounts appear on credit files? If not, would there be any way for a potential mortgage lender to tell that someone had such an account?

My understanding of it is that whenever you apply to open a bank account there is always a credit check. This is to make sure you are who you are. So yes basic bank accounts will still show on your credit file.0

There's nothing to stop them appearing, if the bank chooses to. Even without credit being offered, it's possible to go overdrawn.
I would expect it to appear on your files, so make sure you manage it properly in any event.0 -
They do appear on your files, but always show a zero balance.
Most basic accounts only require an identity check, not a full credit check, as there is no facility for borrowing allowed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Most basic bank accounts require a credit check because they're only offered if the applicant fails to qualify for a full-fat current account.
Even before the rule change forcing banks to offer facilities to pretty much everyone basic bank accounts mostly had credit checks.0 -

Some banks do allow you to apply directly for the basic account, Nationwide being a good example.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
