Greece - Current Rules

10 Posts

Hi all,
I'm very sorry if someone has covered this elsewhere, I was just hoping for clarification from a real person.
I am travelling to Crete on the 9th Oct, (I'm double vaccinated), am I correct in saying I don't need to buy a test prior to flying now the rules have changed?
Do I need to buy a test on returning?
Many thanks,

You might want to reconsider your choice of destination if you are travelling for a holiday as Greece has decided to impliment a discriminatory vaccine passport scheme which may mean you actually cannot eat out in restaurants or enter bars. The UK passport is not officially recognised for this purpose so you will be relying on pragmatic business owners being prepared to break the law to admit you. You will also be breaking the law yourself.
You definitely don't need to take a pre-flight test to leave UK and enter Greece. You just need to book your Day 2 (after you return) test before you leave the UK.
NB When I visited Greece in September there was no sign of any vaccine passport scheme in action. No problem going into any bar or restaurant. They wanted masks to go indoors and that was it. That's my actual experience of having been there 3 weeks ago, in case that helps.

Demonstrating your COVID-19 status
Greece will accept the UK’s proof of COVID-19 recovery and vaccination record. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status.
