First Home Improvements - 7 day cooling off period

We had a rep visit after registering on 'help to buy'. Impressed with product but did feel pressured to sign 'now' for the deal! I've since read reviews and don't trust the company. I placed a £100 deposit - this has a 14 day cancellation period. My contract with First Home says I have 7 days cooling off. Is this legal? A surveyor came to measure up in 6 days and I signed/agreed to the style, design etc. I have sent a cancellation email on day 9.
I have seen a review citing First Home claimed 25% the costs (assume contractual costs) following cancellation. That would be a significant amount given inflated price for 8 windows and doors.

  • Hi HellyShelly.  I have just searched 'First Home Improvements' and I saw your message.  Sorry to hear that you were in that situation.  I am in the same situation and wondered whether you ended up having a good outcome with your cancellation? We signed a contract but they haven't completed the survey yet.  They are telling us that we need to also pay 25% of the contract value.
